External Consulting

Problem Within a VCL project participants need to work together on a complex task. Frequently they are faced with uncertainty, for example, about the effectiveness of their approach and selected method of resolution.
Framework More than one lecturer available; solving a case study
Solution
In order to support the participants of a VCL project in processing the complex task, consultants can be used. They are various experts / lecturers at the particular university who the participants are consulting about their selected approach or method.

Hence the participants profit from the expertise of the consultants by choosing their best advice. An overview of specific expertise of the consultant is provided to the students via profiles in the applied social network or learning platform (see Arrangement of Team Assignment).

Too many questions to the academic staff will result in an overload, hence it is recommended to introduce monetary units for certain consulting services.

Example:

Consulting service of external experts Budget: 50 monetary units (MU) Service:

-10 MU Recommendation of literature to specific topic

-20 MU Answer to one specific question

-40 MU Audit of project

The teams will then have to decide whether they use the consulting service and which particular advice should be perceived within the given budget. Additionally this will enhance the characteristic of the project. Furthermore it is recommended to set deadlines to which the students have to decide on services such as the project audit. This will alleviate the processing effort of the consultant, because most of the audits will be requested just a couple of days before the project submission. In order to assure a uniform auditing approach it is recommended to use a standard form.
