Problem | By assessing the result of the team’s work, all participants are presumed to have an equal share of the result. This means that all team members are receiving the same grade. Due to the fact that this does not often refer to the real contribution of the individual team members, they can consider the given rating as “unfair”. |
Framework | The team effort has to be rated. |
Solution |
At the end of the VCL project every team gets the possibility to assess the team member’s proportion and efforts with points. This encourages the self-reflection of the participants as well as the conflict resolution within the team.
- Basis for an objective self-assessment of every single team member are blog-entries, which every participant makes before the beginning of the project, as well as after the handing in the team's result. Every team member has to define his or her tasks within his or her specific role at the beginning and has to reflect the completion at the end of the project. Accordingly the participants cannot only reflect themselves but use the self-reflections for an objective discussion on the distribution of the points.
-Every group gets a budget of 100 points that have to be distributed to the team members. The bases for this evaluation are the described blog-entries for task-completion. The participants have to justify their decision process and reveal who is pro or contra the distribution of points. In case of a majority decision or no decision, an anonymous rating can be done but only if the team at least tried to distribute the points and failed to do so.
